Through our SB Espoir project, we support unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors in their inclusion in Belgian society as well as women and girls in the “Son Choix, Son Avenir” project by bringing together the youth, women and volunteers from the community. The activities and workshops, and more generally the time spent together with the volunteers and asyulm seekers, allows them to broaden their view on what a future life in Belgium could look like. Through experiencing Belgian culture together, learning new skills and engaging with potential opportunities we give them the tools to build their life.
SB OverSeas has established 3 centers in lebanon ( Beirut, Saida and Arsal) dedicated women’s training centres in or near refugee camps.
Our programmes in the women’s centres are designed to empower them in an economical, psychological and social sense. We offer literacy programs for younger and older refugee women as well as vocational training in marketable skills to offer them with a means of earning an income in a new country. SB OverSeas also offers a program of psychological and social support to women. Through several creative and social activities, we provide a safe space for them to engage in discussion with each other. This creates a network of mutual support, a key to rebuilding community network.
In our flagship Bukra Ahla centre in Beirut, we began a new programme for young refugee women in September 2016. The focus is to provide education and social support, as well as to protect them against the particular threats they face, such as child marriage. Through our empowerment programs, we aim to develop their sense of selves and allow them to regain their voice in the community and society. Additionally, we engage with families and communities to raise awareness of the affects of child marriage.
